Located just north of Duncan, the Somenos Marsh’s wetland ecosystem attracts many bird species all year long, particularly during spring and fall migrations, warranting the designation of Important Bird Area.  Species commonly sighted include Canada geese, mallards, wigeons, wood ducks, black-headed grosbeaks, owls, ospreys, northern harriers, red-tailed hawks, merlins, wrens and warblers.

Located near Cowichan Lake the Honeymoon Bay Ecological Reserve  is   noted for its unique and spectacular density of the rare pink fawn lily as well as more than two dozen species of other wild flowers.
