WildWeaving Workshop: Coiling Scotch Broom

October 18 @ 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm
$75
Jan MacKirdy, a student of now-retired Maria Curtis, is offering her first WildWeaving basket making workshop using invasive plant materials that can be found in Somenos Marsh. Using fresh scotch broom whips and either sinew or sisal for the stitching, you will learn how to create a coil basket. While teaching this ancient process, Jan will discuss the history of this style of basket, the traditional materials used and how materials are prepared. She will also talk about other suitable invasive plant materials available to use in basket making. Sample baskets will be on display to demonstrate different stitching styles and take-home reference material will be provided. All tools and materials  will be supplied by the instructor. There is room for only 8 participants. COVID-19 protocols and social distancing measures will be in place. Please pre-register by emailing Emma at Communications@somenosmarsh.com.
