Overview

Professional theatre thrives at the renowned Chemainus Theatre Festival while the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre plays host to a range of year-round events. Performers also tread the boards at the annual open-air Cowichan Valley Shakespeare Festival.

Theatres plays a big part here, as does music! Every year, the fields of Laketown Ranch in Lake Cowichan fill up with folks eager to dance the days away at Laketown Shakedown, the Cowichan Valley Bluegrass Festival, and Western Canada’s largest country music festival – Sunfest. Meanwhile, the three-day long Islands Folk Festival takes place at the historic Providence Farm while the 39 Days of July Festival celebrates free live music in downtown Duncan.
