To Rhyme or Not to Rhyme: A Poetry Seminar for All
March 4, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
$29.00
Explore you inner poet! This workshop is open both to poets and to those who would like to try the art of poetic composition in a supportive weekly seminar. At each meeting, John will give a brief talk about a writing style or method and illustrate this with a poem of his own. Participants would then, if they would like, read a draft of an original work aloud for us to discuss and appreciate. There is no wrong way to make poetry; but the ears of others can be very helpful to create a finished piece. It is not necessary to rhyme; but sometimes this will reinforce the sense. Some topics covered will be: writing metaphorically, writing from personal experience, and writing like somebody else for practice.
John Edwards is Poet-In-Residence for the Arts Council Of Ladysmith And District. He studied at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar in Latin and Greek; and subsequently attended the Victoria College Of Art. He is the author of many translations of classical poets; and books of original poetry.
